Kuala  Lumpur, 12 January 2017 – IRIS Corporation Berhad has named Choong Choo Hock as Chief Operating Officer, heading its Trusted Identification business. The appointment takes immediate effect. In this position, Choong, age 54, will report to IRIS’ Exco Committee and Board of Directors.

Choong brings more than 32 years of technology manufacturing and operational leadership to this new executive role. He continues to lead IRIS’ Trusted Identification manufacturing operations and is responsible for driving performance and delivering IRIS’ innovations to markets around the world.

"Choong has been with IRIS for the past eight years streamlining our manufacturing operations to align with our global growth strategies,” said Dato’ Hamdan Mohd Hassan, Deputy Managing Director of IRIS. “He is a seasoned and trusted executive who consistently delivers results. His combination of industry and manufacturing knowledge uniquely qualifies him to drive IRIS’ operating priorities. The board and I have tremendous confidence in Choong’s ability to build on IRIS’ innovative edge with best practices, and new technologies and tools that will extend our footprint globally.”

In his prior role as Director of Manufacturing, Choong was instrumental in the delivery of 183.2 million pieces of ePassports, inlays, eIDs and smartcards, which account for more than 66 percent of the company’s revenue.

Prior to joining IRIS in 2009, Choong began his career as a Process Engineer with Metek Kitamura in Singapore in 1984 and progressed to Production Manager (Factory Manager Designate) assigned to set up Metek’s new Malaysian operations in Seremban in 1985. He has since gone on to distinguish himself in quality management (ISO 9000 implementation) for the Associated Pan Malaysian Cement group. In 1995, he joined the semiconductor industry where he served in numerous senior management positions at Possehl Electronics, a German multinational.

A native of Penang, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree at National University of Singapore in 1984.
